The Rising Cost of Water

Water costs continue to rise, no end in sight. The cost of water continues to outpace other utilities. Keto Plainck is one way to decrease your water bill through predictive AI. Pools lose an average of 100 gallons per day costing pool owners $500 USD annually. Additionally, by overfilling your pool accidentally, just once, over an 8 hour period can cost $50 USD (4,000 gallons). The Keto platform will automatically recognize overfill events and send push notifications to your phone. Worried you have a leak? Don't sweat it, just turn off your pool pump for 24 hours and run a Keto leak detection test with 0.25 mm water level accuracy.

The Hidden Costs of Maintenance

DIY pool maintenance costs do not account for risk. Maintenance costs can be significantly higher based on one or two (preventable) high or low cost events. Plainck prevents equipment maintenance and chemistry corrections through notifications to mobile devices and visual dashboards.

The Pool Skimmer

A pool’s skimmer is designed to help clean by skimming water and capturing floating debris. Most people recognize it by the flap (weir) in the water. All pool water must pass through this location at some point providing an excellent location to collect data from your pool. The skimmer is a fixed position, and it is near the pump inlet pipes, making it the perfect component for sensor information and technical innovation.

ORP as a water quality measurement standard

Oxidation reduction potential (ORP) can be used for water quality monitoring, showing the activity of the disinfectant rather than the applied dose. For example, E. coliSalmonellaListeria and other pathogens have survival times of under 30 seconds when the ORP is above 665 mV, compared against >300 seconds when it is below 485 mV.

A study was conducted comparing traditional parts per million chlorination reading and ORP in Hennepin County, Minnesota. The results of this study argue for the inclusion of ORP above 650mV in local health codes.

The Skimmer Basket

Your skimmer basket is your first line of defense to remove unwanted material from your pool. A clogged skimmer basket puts strain on your pool pump, reducing its lifespan. At the same time, your water flow is significantly reduced limiting filtration of your pool water.

Tracking your cleaning progress with the Keto Platform will prevent unwanted events like an overpressured basket that breaks and sends harmful debris through your piping and into your pool pump.

The Skimmer Weir

The function of the weir is to increase the flow of water at the top of the surface, this increases surface water entering the skimmer rather than from below the surface. Basically, floating debris would not be removed from the pool effectively without the weir. Additionally, when your pool pump turns off, the weir prevents debris from floating back into your pool. The pool water entering your skimmer should be about 1/3 to 2/3 the height of your skimmer. Too low and your pump will begin to work too hard to keep up with the flow… eventually leading to air ingress and cavitation causing serious damage to your pump. If your water is too high, this will lead to a reduction in skimming efficiency.
